Lake Morii is the largest lake in Bucharest, covering an area of 246 ha. It is delimited by the Crangasi neighborhood to the east and southeast, the Giulesti neighborhood to the north and northeast and the village of Rosu (Chiajna commune) to the southwest.
Built between 1985 and 1986, Lake Morii is an accumulation lake on the Dambovita River, being formed behind the Ciurel dam, a dam built in order to protect the capital against floods.
In its northern part is located the area called "Island of Angels", which is actually a peninsula with an area of over 3 ha, connected to the lake shore by an isthmus of earth and on which were planted over 400 trees.
This island and the promenade area that surrounds Lake Morii are in the attention of the authorities for the realization of extensive modernization works, which aim to transform them into spaces for cultural, sports, promenade or relaxation activities. At the same time, in the area behind Lake Morii, towards Giulesti Sarbi, the City Hall intends to arrange an urban forest, which will also represent a place of leisure. The budget allocated to this project amounts to 15 million lei, and for the arrangement of the promenade area around Lake Morii there is already the feasibility study elaborated and the procedure for the execution of the arrangement works is to be organized.
